Hastings Way Redesign Public Meeting
Thursday, May 27, 2010
5:00pm - All Ages
2100 Fenwick Avenue
Eau Claire, WI 54701
From SEH Inc.

The City of Eau Claire became the owner with jurisdictional responsibility for Hastings Way, formerly US Highway 53 (US 53), in September 2006, following completion of the Highway 53 Freeway. Hastings Way (BUS 53) is no longer a major component of the statewide backbone system with an objective to get cars and trucks to destinations in northwest Wisconsin from I-94 to the Duluth/Superior metropolitan area.

Hastings Way is now a principle urban arterial road serving local and regional traffic with a large percentage of the trips originating or destined to local development along the route. The reduction in traffic and function provides a unique opportunity through the road reconstruction to address many of the deficiencies that currently exist along the roadway. Various segments of Hastings Way have already been rebuilt over the past several years. The last section to be reconstructed runs from Clairemont Avenue (US 12) north to the Eau Claire River bridges. A frequently asked questions (FAQ) sheet is enclosed which provides additional information on the project.

The reconstruction of this segment of Hastings Way has the following goal:

. . . construct a major thoroughfare that is multi-modal in nature serving the needs of the adjacent land uses, creates a walkable and sustainable neighborhood, and relates with the community quality of life through aesthetics, livability, and sense of place, while maintaining safety and mobility for all users . . .

To achieve this goal we need participation and input from businesses, residents, stakeholders, and other interested parties.

We hope to see you at the May 27th Public Information Meeting!
