Update on Fundraising for Boyd Park Bathroom Upgrade

We currently need $2,300 to meet our half of the $8,050 matching grant from the City of Eau Claire. With over 1,800 households in the neighborhood, it would take less then a $1.50 from each to reach our goal. There is a fundraiser set for April 9th from 2-4pm at the Paint Shack (2524 Golf Rd, Ste 2C).  $40 dollars to paint. More info on their website www.thepaintshack.net

Anyone wishing to write a check can send it to the Eau Claire Parks Association at 915 Menomonie street Eau Claire WI, 54703 (please put “Boyd Park bathrooms” in the memo line).

Margaret Street Improvements: Survey Results and More

Thank you to all 167 neighbors who responded to our Margaret Street survey! Here is a summary of the results:

• 72% support reducing the speed limit to either 25 or 20 miles per hour.
• 61% support a 4-way stop at Margaret and Highland. 15% are neutral.
• At the same intersection, 89% support painted crosswalks, 83% support pedestrian signs, and 52% support larger curb extensions.
• 43% support bike lanes. 27% are neutral.
• 45% support bicycle shared-lane markings. 31% are neutral.
• At the intersections of Margaret and Fenwick and Margaret and Sherwin, 91% support painted crosswalks on all four sides of the intersection and 49% support larger curb extensions.

These results have been shared with Eau Claire Transportation Engineer Leah Ness. Ness is in the process of conducting an engineering study of Margaret Street, which includes a speed study and an analysis of the feasibility of various options for making the street safer for all users, particularly pedestrians and bicyclists.

Ness will be present at our April 21 Annual Meeting (Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 1310 Main St.) to discuss Margaret Street and other neighborhood street projects. Please come to share your thoughts about Margaret Street with her.

EHNA Steering Committee vice president Jason Duba and Eastside Hill resident Eric Anderson are participating in a newly-formed task force to develop crosswalk policies for the city to determine placement and treatment of crosswalks, such as the ones proposed for Margaret Street.

Info About Home Buyer Grants Available in Eau Claire…

There are several new Home Buyer Grants available this home buying season. Bank Mutual has a Down Payment Assistance Grant of $6,000. The city of Eau Claire and the County both are offering home buyer assistance grants, as well.  Several lenders have access to a grant called Move UP  and WHEDA is offering financial loan assistance.

These programs are not limited to first time Buyers only, but they do have income limitations to qualify. For example, the Down Payment Assistance program is limited in eligibility in Eau Claire County to single buyers with incomes under $36,150, $41,300 for a family of two. $46,450 for a family of three, $51,600 for a family of four, etc.

Minimalism: A Documentary About the Important Things

My name is Ernie Reppe, and I live on Hoover Ave. I’m working to bring a screening of the film Minimalism: A Documentary About the Important Things to the Oakwood Mall theater on May 24, 2016, and I’m inviting you to join me.

Screenings of this documentary are happening across the US, and they’re inspiring communities like ours to ask themselves, “How might my life be better with less?”

You can view the film’s trailer here: https://youtu.be/0Co1Iptd4p4

I’m excited to share this film because it challenges viewers to reevaluate the things that matter most to them, and it provides insight into the lives of people who thrive with less. I believe this film has a positive message that will improve people’s lives. And I think this film will really resonate with us on the Eastside Hill because we all know how little storage there is in most of these homes! Actually, minimalism is what inspired me to participate in the annual Eastside Hill Thrift Sale last spring.

I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to share this wonderful documentary with the community I care so much about, and I hope that you join me!

You can register for your ticket(s) at this event page: http://gathr.us/screening/14482 Please register sooner rather than later so that we can hit the event’s reservation quota. We need 56 people to register for tickets in order to bring this film to Eau Claire. You can also help make this happen by spreading the word to your family and friends.

If you have any questions or would like some promotional materials for sharing the film please contact me at minimalismfilmeauclaire@gmail.com
