October 6: Join the POVERTY SUMMIT!

A message from Mark Ruddy, president of EHNA

The following is an invitation to join a 7-session process to learn about the level of poverty in Eau Claire County, get training in community organizing skills, and evolve to an action group that that works to decrease poverty in a significant way. Clear Vision has proven its effectiveness in past citizen engagement initiatives. The first session is October 6th. My goal is to have a group of us from the Eastside Hill join this process and eventually target poverty issues in our Neighborhood. Contact me at markruddy55@yahoo.com. Here is the invite from Clear Vision:

In October Clear Vision Eau Claire will launch a POVERTY SUMMIT. This new citizen-led initiative will bring people from all of Eau Claire County together to identify and take action on poverty and income insecurity issues facing our local communities.

We have started recruiting participants for the 7-session Poverty Summit by reaching out to citizens with a unique perspective or a personal experience, as well as those who represent service providers or are in a situation with an opportunity to touch and reach other people.

You can learn more about the Poverty Summit at ClearVisionEauClaire.org. And if you have questions or would like to participate, please let us know at eauclaireclearvision@gmail.com.

Steering Committee Positions Still Open

On September 15th,  at our most important meeting of the year, the following new Neighbors stepped up to be on our Steering Committee for the next two years: Gina Kenan-Klages, Traci  Ohlmann, Susan Bauer, Luke Stordahl,  Mark Ruddy, Chris Buske, and Tania Mathews. Chris and Tania chose 1-year terms to fill out positions vacated when others moved from our Neighborhood.

Four Neighbors continue on for the second year of their two-year terms: Cortney Draxler, Sally Broker, Chad Rowekamp, and Shannon Paulus.

Turn out at this Fall meeting was less than normal. This might have been because the signage usually put up to announce our meeting did not get put up. Maybe there are still others in our Neighborhood who want  join our leadership Committee.

Our Steering Committee is at least one person short of our twelve positions.  And, two of those just elected stated they had little time to give to this position and offered to take a position only if no others were willing. So, if there were others with more time who would like to serve on the Steering Committee they have the opportunity to take over for either of the two with limited time.

In summary, we have up to three positions available: all would be one-year terms because they would be appointments from the Committee rather than from elections at the Fall Meeting. Help share the workload; consider joining  the Steering Committee. Contact me if you have questions: markruddy55@yahoo.com.
