Guests: Deputy Chief of Police for Patrols Chad Hoyord, Lieutenant Ryan Dahlgren

Treasurer’s Report: No report given. Upcoming expenses are domain name, P.O. Box-User Fee.

Secretary’s Report – Secretary’s report for February was approved.

Welcoming and Introductions:

Examples from the last month that Committee members made Eastside Hill a Better Place: Supported girl scouts and other fundraisers, sold humanKind signs, plan for upcoming Earth Day.

Old Business:

1. 501(c)3 Status – To get federal status we needed the state status, which we now have. Mark will read through information in case we need to file a report for 2016. Takes at least a couple months to get approval for federal status, when and if we go for it. Committee voted to wait to get federal status until there is a clear need. Mark will consult with Deb Becker about our use of her $400 gift that only gained us State non-profit status. (After the meeting Mark talked to Deb Becker who was okay with the Committee’s progress that was financed by her gift. She encourages the Association to go ahead with Federal status fundraising asap to make it easier to attract donations).

2. Margaret Street issues – April 25 is the 1st Reading at City Council on Margaret Street speed limit. May 8 is the Public Hearing before the Council. May 9th is the final vote by Council. In early April, after the City Engineers decide what their recommendation is for the speed limit for Margaret and the issue of a 4-way stop at Margaret and Highland, a plan will be developed to make our case for the Neighborhood’s requests: 25 mph continuation of the speed limit, and a 4-way stop at Margaret and Highland.

3. Welcomed officers to our meeting. Their discussion was on city police policy in regards to immigration. They are screened heavily for prejudice before being hired. Usually a year process. They will not take political stands. They will treat each individual the same regardless of status.
Officers main priorities are drug enforcement and mental health issues.

4. Hoping to make $200 on humanKind signs. They were printed by Johnson Litho. Can print more if necessary. Profit will be held by EHNA’s treasurer and ear marked for humanKIND .

5. Boyd Park beach – Chris met with Parks & Recreation with some opposition due to perceived liability issues. Chris then pitched the project as “river access” and the project was supported because it then fits into the City’s “greenway” policy of connecting residents with our waterways. Chris will keep us updated as he gets more information about when that project is ready to work on.

6. Sports Equipment at Boyd Park: Gina volunteered to help with sports equipment at Boyd Park that would be available for Neighbor’s use at the Park. Mark will ask residents that walk/walk dogs in area to see if they will help the idea succeed. All members can keep an eye on it as well. Hope to get equipment donated at our May thrift sale.

NEW BUSINESS:

1. Little Library: Spirit Lutheran is going to be putting up a little library. Sue asked if Association was willing to make a donation. Association agreed on $20. Tania Mathews volunteered to match. Sue Bauer will also match. Sue will let church know to plan on $60 coming towards their little library.

2. Activities for the April semi- annual meeting is being looked into, with the goal of getting more Neighbors to attend.

* Still openings for up to two on Steering Committee to relieve Luke and Gina if there are others who have interest.

Next meeting: April 20 2017, 6:30 p.m. Spirit Lutheran.
