By EHNA Steering Committee President Mark Ruddy

On two Wednesday mornings in June, groups of 7 to 10 kids and adults were a very welcomed energy to attack weeds that have invaded the perennial garden boulevard plantings. The program, “Summer Stretch”, is organized by St. John’s Lutheran Church and is open to any kids who want to be a part of it. A morning service project is balanced with a more fun-oriented activity in the afternoon. Kids who helped EHNA were from 8 to 18 years old. They will help one more time in July. They gave a timely boost to our Neighborhood’s “Taking Care of Margaret” campaign to clean up the perennial areas. Improved boulevards are part of our “traffic calming”efforts and make our area safer for all. Hopefully this work makes these kids and us feel more a part of our expanding community.  Thank you Summer Stretch and all of the people who make it a positive learning experience. We were stretched in more ways than one”.
