UW-Eau Claire to Help Create a Master Plan for Boyd Park

In the University’s spring semester students in Professor Scott Lester’s Community Leadership Class, MGMT 494, will help our Neighborhood Association over the course of the semester develop a needed master plan for Boyd Park. The class is an experiential one that helps students learn how to effectively interact as leaders in this community project. Our Association’s Steering Committee crafted a proposal to Lester’s class and four of his students have committed themselves to this task.

Shelly Sutley, affectionately known as our local “bluebird lady” was instrumental in guiding our pitch to the university class. Shelly is part of the group that has installed bluebird houses at Forrest Hill cemetery and other sites in Eau Claire.

This infusion of student energy is timely because the skateboarding fundraisers hope to have funding secured for a skateboard facility in 2018. Our Neighborhood Association has supported the general idea of having this addition to Boyd Park. A master plan would include checking in with our Neighbors about the best uses of Boyd Park, getting advice from our county and city park planners, sorting through many options, and then leaving a legacy for years of improvements to this already popular community space.

The students would start their planning February 2nd. Start you own thinking of the what and how you’d want to help them develop their plan. What features do you want to see as part of our park? If you want to be a resource to the planning group in any way, contact me at markruddy55@yahoo.com.
