Monthly Meeting: Thursday, Dec. 14

The Eastside Hill Neighborhood Association is holding its December meeting on Thursday, December 14 at 6:30pm at the Eau Claire Music School, 1620 Ohm Avenue (this location was incorrect in the last email).

Leah Ness from the city’s Engineering Office will present on the Harding Avenue upcoming changes. She wants to get more feedback about alternatives and priorities from our Neighborhood. In January they hope to have their recommendation available for how they aim to meet the needs of the majority who use that area.

Saturday, Dec. 16 - Annual Eastside Hill Caroling Party

Let your spirits be warmed by joining your friends and neighbors in raising Christmas cheer. All ages and abilities welcome. Refreshments provided. Bring your voice or an instrument. Meet at the music school at 5:30pm on Saturday, Dec. 16 for refreshments and practice. Caroling starts at 6pm, and more refreshments at 7pm.

Time To Give Input on Harding Avenue Makeover

Leah Ness from the city’s engineering department will be at our December 14th Steering Committee meeting to solicit input from Neighbors about the Harding Avenue project that is scheduled for next year’s construction season. In January a proposal will be submitted by the engineers and they will then seek to gain support from Neighborhoods before the plan goes to the City Council …

UW-Eau Claire to Help Create a Master Plan for Boyd Park

In the University’s spring semester students in Professor Scott Lester’s Community Leadership Class, MGMT 494, will help our Neighborhood Association over the course of the semester develop a needed master plan for Boyd Park. The class is an experiential one that helps students learn how to effectively interact as leaders in this community project. Our Association’s Steering Committee crafted a proposal to Lester’s class and four of his students have committed themselves to this task …

Margaret Groomed Once Again

In early November the year’s final improvements were made in Margaret Street’s boulevards. The city forester planted 6 more trees bringing the number planted this year to 28. And a crew of one cleaned up the spent-looking plants from the boulevards so they won’t look straggly until Spring. If any Neighbors want to turn their Margaret Street boulevard into perennials, or have a tree planted there, contact us by mid December so we can work with our city park’s department to order plants and/or trees …

Proposal to Remove Trees from Boyd Park Area

The Eau Claire Parks Department has approved a plan negotiated by Neighbors active in maintaining and improving the Boyd Park Prairie and improving access to the Eau Claire River. The plan needs final approval yet by the Parks and Waterways Commission. Xcel Energy has volunteered to do substantial work on both of these projects, at no cost to our Neighborhood Association or the City of Eau Claire …

Restorative Justice Resolution Endorsed by Neighborhood Steering Committee

Our Neighborhood Association voted November 16th to support a resolution that hopes to make our area safer by encouraging use of the Restorative Justice Program to support the victims of bad behaviors or crimes while also helping the offender understand how our community was harmed by their action …

Library Event at Boyd Park: December 26

The L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library will be visiting the Boyd Park warming house on Tuesday, December 26th from 1 to 4 pm as part of the EC Parks and Recreation Come and Play days. They will have a storytime every 20 minutes, as well as winter crafts. They want to invite your neighbors to come down for this fun, family friendly event!
