February 12: Focus on Boyd Park and Its Future Uses

The Eastside Hill Neighborhood Association has secured the talents of three senior- year enrollees in Dr. Scott Lester’s UWEC Community Leadership Class, MGMT 494. The sole classwork for this course is working as a team, along with the Neighborhood Association, to gather information and options for activities that would best serve our Neighborhood’s use of Boyd Park; our Association’s calls this planning effort “Boyd Park Plus “.

The Eau Claire Skateboard Association continues to refine their vision of where a skateboard park would best compliment our current park’s flow. In anticipation of their more specific design decisions, the Neighborhood Association is inviting our Neighbors to prioritize and envision current and future uses of Boyd Park. This planning process started February 2nd and will culminate with a class presentation on April 27th.

Everyone is invited to jump start this planning exercise on Monday, February 12 (6:30 PM), at Spirit Lutheran’s Fireside Room, 1310 Main Street. Enter from the parking lot door and follow signage that directs you straight ahead. If you can’t be a part of our brainstorming on the 12th we still value your input, either through email/phone or a one-on-one meeting with you. Connect with this team, either before or after the 12th, by reaching out to Mark Ruddy, our Neighborhood Association President: markruddy55@yahoo.com; 839-7949. This planning process is meant to reach out to the next 3 to 4 years.

The creative UWEC students are Brett St. Aubin, Luis De La Pena and Neil Miller. This experience will provide the students an opportunity to employ their leadership skills and to value community involvement.

Beyond a skateboard area, the team will examine core activities such as creative playground equipment, maintenance for the Boyd Park Prairie, help in finding grants for park projects, and other areas that you can help identify. Come and share your awareness and ideas for improvements to Boyd Park.

Be part of that process where the labors of one generation, like planting a tree, gifts the next generation with the enjoyment of ample shade.
