March 15: Steering Committee Meeting

This is our regular third-Thursday-of-the-month meeting of the Steering Committee of our Eastside Hill Neighborhood Association; 6:30 PM at Spirit Lutheran Church on Main Street. Our main agenda item is to set goals and priorities for our Committee for this year. Neighbors are always welcome to join us.

‘Boyd Park Plus’ Continues

With the help of four UWEC Service Learning Students we are brainstorming ways to improve Boyd Park. The best setting for a skateboard park continues to be a linear, L-shaped design that would fit into the south/Main Street edge of the park. This allows the activity to be very visible and easily monitored. Initial suggestions are to keep the rest of the park green and flexible for every changing uses rather than building in more structured uses; keep it flexible. The park needs to be welcoming, safe, inclusive and creative. The students will complete their involvement with this project until late April. Their work will be joined with on-going efforts to prioritize features within the park.

March 14: Candidate Forum for Third Ward City Council Contenders

The Third Ward Neighborhood Association will have a candidate forum for their City Council position contenders: Kathy Mitchell and Jeremy Gragert, on March 14th. The southeast corner of the Eastside Hill Neighborhood Association is represented by that position (the area south of Altoona Avenue and east of Lee Street). The meeting site is room 1804 of Centennial Hall on the UW campus. That room is on the first floor and at the east end of the building. The candidates will be available to speak with from 6:30 to 7:00 PM. The forum will start about 7:10.

Reading Buddies Needed!

Do you love working with children? Are you interested in making a positive impact at Flynn Elementary? We are looking for adults to read with students! We have many one-hour Reading Buddy spots available on various days and times throughout the week. We will provide training for you- no experience necessary! Ideally, a volunteer would come at the same time one day per week for 6+ weeks, but we will try to accommodate different schedules. Please contact Alison Harder if you’re interested in learning more at 715-852-3307or aharder1@ecasd.us. This is a great opportunity to connect with Flynn students, serve as a role model, and help students improve their literacy!
