April 19: humanKIND’s Hmong Fiber Arts Exhibition and Fundraiser

humanKIND, The Hmong Mutual Assistance Association and Tangled Up In Hue are hosting a celebration of Hmong Fiber Arts with a reception from 6 to 8 PM at Tangled Up In Hue on Thursday, April 19th. This event is part of Hmong Heritage Awareness Month. You will learn about Hmong culture through the story cloths and stitch work of Paj ntaub “flower cloth” that tells the story of the Hmong people through embroidery and intricate appliqué. Mai Xee Xiong, textile artist and Pa Thao, Executive Director of the Eau Claire Hmong Mutual Assistance Association, will speak and be available to answer questions. The Hmong Christian Church will serve egg rolls and there will be Hmong music. There will be a Hmong translator at the event.

This event will also be a fundraiser for humanKIND. There will be a basket raffle with donations from local business. HumanKIND will also have items with a message of welcome and celebration of diversity available as gifts with donations. Continuing the celebration of Hmong Cultural Awareness Month humanKIND is hosting a Hmong Fiber Arts Workshop at the Chippewa Valley Museum on Saturday, April 21 from 9:00 am-1:00 pm. Participants can produce their own traditional Hmong textile as taught by local Hmong textile artist Mai Xee Xiong. The cost of this event is $25 and preregistration is required by calling the Chippewa Valley Museum at 715 834-7841.
