From EHNA Steering Committee President Mark Ruddy …

This story ends well so don’t go to a fear place. Last May, savvy neighbor kids found a handgun in the woods north of the Boyd Park shelter. They contacted a parent and then the police. In the end this was a situation to praise our community response rather than questioning our safety.

Our South District Police Lieutenant, Ben Frederick, reported these facts to our May Steering Committee meeting of our Neighborhood Association: A hand gun was reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked north of the Eau Claire River in May of 2016. Police suspect the perpetrator decided to ditch the gun by throwing it off of the pedestrian bridge that connects Boyd Park with the area north of the Eau Claire River. The gun had a vine growing through the weapon.

This is a reminder that those who have a weapon keep it in a locked, secured place to prevent others from having access to it.
