Volunteer Needed to ID Prairie Plants

The 2-acre prairie at Boyd Park is a community treasure. To make the public more aware of it we are looking for someone who can post information at the Boyd Park bulletin board and/or within the prairie, to help people become more familiar with the progression of prairie plants that present themselves throughout the growing season. It is ever changing. Hopefully, this public awareness will encourage more Neighbors to join us in maintaining the prairie that was seeded down, initially in 2003, starting with the west end. That seed mix included 25 flowering plants, 1 shrub (Lead Plant), and 5 grasses or sedges. If interested, contact markruddy55@yahoo.com; 839-7949.

Margaret Street’s Boulevards, Who Cares…for Them?

From EHNA Steering Committee President Mark Ruddy … When Margaret Street was redone in 2008 and 2009 she incorporated features to make her safer, at the request of our Neighborhood Association. The narrowing at intersections known as bump outs made the street easier to cross and also provided boulevards for trees and perennials that further made the street appear even narrower, causing traffic to be feel instinctively cautious and then slow down … Read More!

Good Judgement by Local Kids

From EHNA Steering Committee President Mark Ruddy … This story ends well so don’t go to a fear place. Last May, savvy neighbor kids found a handgun in the woods north of the Boyd Park shelter. They contacted a parent and then the police. In the end this was a situation to praise our community response rather than questioning our safety.
