River Access in Boyd Park Rises Again

Jeff Pippenger, Community Services Director (parks and forestry department), met with Eastside Hill representatives on August 3rd and announced that his department has changed their mind about forbidding river access within Boyd Park. They now support EHNA Steering Committee member Chris Buske’s concept of allowing physical access to the Eau Claire River via nature trails as a part of overall improvements to Boyd Park. A rough draft of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was hammered out at that meeting. Jeff Pippenger will formalize the new consensus into a MOU. If EHNA agrees, he will present this plan to our City Council for their approval. Thank you to Chris for his vision and perseverance.

Beyond the approval of River Access, the city offered to help with their resources in planning and helping execute some projects when they have time.

We were heartened by the city’s supportive tone.  -submitted by Mark Ruddy
