New Lead Service Line Replacement Program

Eau Claire is estimated to have about 1200 homes that have lead in the pipes that bring water to those residences. The lead can leach out of the pipe and contaminate your water and your health. To combat this danger the city now has funds to reimburse a home owner for replacing lead service lines, up to $2000, the average cost of such replacement work.

Much of the galvanized piping used until the early 1950s contains lead.

To find out if you qualify for these dollars go to www.eauclairewi.gov/lead-service-line. Or email the city at leadserviceline@eauclairewi.gov; or call 715 839-5045. City staff can do a quick site visit to determine if you are eligible. If you’re a renter check with your landlord to determine if there is a problem with lead in your building.

No amount of lead in your water is safe.  –submitted by Mark Ruddy
