Over Eighty Thrift Sales!
OK! The Eastside Hill’s neighborhood-wide thrift sale is all set for Saturday (May 22). And get this! As of Wednesday night, we’ve got 83 sales signed up. That’s just crazy. So please …
Like many of you, the Eastside Hill Neighborhood Association was contacted by the City of Eau Claire about the upcoming public input meeting for the Hastings Way reconstruction project – expected to start in 2011. Hastings is a major road in the city and in the neighborhood. It’s our eastern border, but in it’s current form, it’s also a kind of barrier blocking foot and bicycle traffic from the businesses and residents on the other side. Our input on the redesign is among the city’s most valuable. This is an important opportunity to learn and be heard.
The Eastside Hill team has always been a plucky bunch of characters. Historically we have done well in the postseason. Twice, we’ve won our league championship, and last year we took second place. There is some kind of magic that takes hold of our neighborhood during the early part of August, and we tend to be quite formidable in those times. As for the regular season…umm…not so much.
Wanting to create a more environmentally sustainable lifestyle but needing help? Join an Eco-Team! With grant assistance, Eau Claire County UW-Extension and Sustainable Eau Claire have teamed up to launch an innovative and fun sustainability program for the Chippewa Valley. Many local eco-teams have already successfully participated in the program. Several households participated in the first eco-team in the Eastside Hill neighborhood. The team wrapped up in April and Marcy Smith had this to share about the experience. “It was a great way to connect with your neighbors, while learning more about sustainability. It really made us aware of all of the things we could do to live a more eco-friendly lifestyle. I would recommend it to anyone!”
This short video, showing brief re-imagination of Hastings Way and Barstow Street in Eau Claire, Wis. is part of a large print/online feature story from Volume One Magazine discussing how streets define our community in countless ways. With Eau Claire on the cusp of some major street reconstruction projects – including the Eastside Hill Neighborhood’s eastern border, Hastings Way – some figure it’s time to consider some of the amazing street projects adopted by forward thinking communities the world over.
