Like most parents and people who just got a kitten, I’d like her to stay young forever. Thankfully, there are still things that will keep my daughter young in my eyes. For example, about 79 times a day, she insists she is a kitty princess (which is a cat “just dressed up” like a princess). Most adults don’t do that. Also, I don’t anticipate her needing to cross the street anytime soon – kids just don’t do that much nowadays. I mean, leaving your yard is so 1953, man.

This short video, showing brief re-imagination of Hastings Way and Barstow Street in Eau Claire, Wis. is part of a large print/online feature story from Volume One Magazine discussing how streets define our community in countless ways. With Eau Claire on the cusp of some major street reconstruction projects – including the Eastside Hill Neighborhood’s eastern border, Hastings Way – some figure it’s time to consider some of the amazing street projects adopted by forward thinking communities the world over.

Maybe you’ve heard about a movement in Eau Claire to change city ordinances so they allow people to keep chickens in their backyard. It’s spearheaded by a group called ECLUCK (Eau Claire Leaders for Urban Chicken Keeping, Facebook page) which includes residents of the Eastside Hill Neighborhood. Public comment on the issue is part of the City Council agenda for its Monday, April 26 meeting.
